The Orchid Society of Great Britain’s display was
awarded Gold by the judges at The Chelsea Flower Show today, sponsored by The
Oman Ministry of Tourism as their first appearance at Chelsea. The display explores
and displays the changes in orchid growing over the past one hundred years to
celebrate the centenary of the RHS Chelsea Flower Show. The naturalistic setting displays a
wide variety of species and hybrid orchids grown by the society’s members,
including orchids found in Oman.
Designers
Mrs Valerie
Micklewright, Hon. Sec of the Society and Lady Samantha Hurley
(pictured) commented on the Gold Award: “We are
incredibly proud to have won Gold for our first Chelsea exhibit and grateful to
the entire team who continue to uphold the society's high standards. Our
exhibit has been created by a large group of volunteer orchid enthusiasts all
wanting to promote and share their passion for these beautiful plants. We were
pleased to showcase unusual terrestrial orchids this year, including Eulophia
guineensis, native to the Sultanate of Oman and would like to thank our
sponsors The Sultanate of Oman Ministry of Tourism for all their support.”
